Create cohorts

Learn more about North.Cloud's Cohorts feature, which enables you to organize users into groups and assign them specific roles and responsibilities across different North features.

Cohorts are powerful user groups that let you organize people within your organization and assign responsibilities across North's features. With cohorts, you can streamline collaboration, control access, and clarify which users or teams are responsible for specific accounts and feature areas.

What are Cohorts?

  • Cohorts are groups of users that can be assigned to manage or access specific features in North.Cloud.

  • You can use cohorts to allocate responsibility for important functions like Anomaly Detection, Reshaping recommendations, and Stream Business Units.

  • Cohorts allow you to map teams to the cloud accounts or business units they manage, improving accountability and workflow.

  • For other North features, cohorts can be created and members can self-assign as needed.

How to Create and Use Cohorts

To create a cohort and assign responsibilities:

  1. Click "Create Cohort".

  2. Name your cohort (e.g., "FinOps Team", "SRE Group", "Business Unit X Owners").

  3. Add users to the cohort.

  4. (For Anomalies, Reshaping, and Stream Business Units):

    • Assign the cohort a list of account IDs or business units they are responsible for.

    • This maps accountability for optimizations, anomaly investigations, and business unit management directly to the relevant team.

  5. Finalize and save the cohort configuration.

Example workflow:

  • Create a cohort called "East Region Engineers".

  • Add engineers responsible for the eastern AWS accounts.

  • Assign this cohort to Anomalies, Reshaping, and Stream Business Units for the set of account IDs they own.

  • Whenever a recommendation or anomaly is detected for those accounts, the cohort is automatically notified and given access.

  • For features like reports or dashboards, cohorts can join or be given access as needed.

Why use cohorts?

  • Ensure the right teams receive the right alerts and tasks.

  • Streamline collaboration and hand-offs—everyone knows their area of responsibility.

  • Maintain clear, auditable mappings between users, teams, accounts, and feature controls.

For more on cohorts, see the feature-specific documentation or the "Cohorts" section in your North.Cloud dashboard.
