(CS) Getting Started

Coststreams is a dynamic cost allocation & intelligence tool, allowing teams greater intelligence, visibility & control into the teams, products, or layers of their cloud spend.

Coststreams requires the user to build stream logics to start. Its important to understand the heiracrhy of Coststreams.

Views

  • Think of views as tabs in a browser. A view will house its own unique business units, and cost stream logic. The best way to split views is to think of who or what departments or teams need to view cloud costs in their own unique way. Each one would need its own view.

Business Units

  • Business units can house one or many coststream boxes. You will assign a box to a BU at the stream box. You may notice that only a box is assigned to a BU, you cannot assign subboxes to any BU, this is becuase the costs are already allocated. If you require hyper granular allocation to BUs, we would suggest you assign them at the most downstream subboxes.

Streams

  • Streams & boxes will flow & populate cost data & intelligence based on the split logic you create. To further split costs you just go to the stream box and create a new filter. There are no limits to how granular you can get here.

Example of Coststreams boxes

Coststreams is on by default in all North accounts. When you access the opening page, you will follow the below steps to start creating a stream logic.

  1. Create/Name your view.

  2. Start with the root account costs, and add filters/splits.

  3. Add new subsplits to boxes as you build your logic.

  4. Create Business Units (top of the page)

  5. Tie back streams into business units at the stream level, button middle button.
